FUTURES Dead quiet

The doldrums continued on the futures market yesterday, with no movement and no direction. For an hour and a half there was no trading in the busiest contract, Government stock futures. The quietness may spur the Futures Exchange when the executive this Friday discusses the introduction of contracts on a bank-accepted bill and a share-price index. The volume of Government stock futures traded yesterday was light at 267. Only one month, December, was traded. Prices were up only four pointe on the Monday close, and the trading failed to break out of its narrow band. The U.S. dollar contract was up 20 pointe at the close compared with Monday’s close, but on a tiny volume. Wool contracts were lightly traded at a price a shade firmer to steady than Monday’s level. On the Sydney Futures Exchange, spot December share price index futures closed 17 pointe higher at 1357, a dis- - count of 14.8 points to the physical market Details of yesterday’s trading in New Zealand: SUS CONTRACTS Mth Open H/L Last Vol Nov 2.0080 .0100/050 .0100 4 ' Contracts traded: 4 Open positions at October 20: Nov 193, Dec 16, Jan 6, Mar 3, total 218 (up 8).
