S.I. kart event draws big entry
A large contingent of Christchurch Kart Club members will head north for the 1986 South Island sprint kart championships at Blenheim this week-end. In the midget class, for up to 12-year-olds, Myles Spicer will be challenging for the title. He will be hard-pressed by his club-mates, Lee Claughton, Aaron Crichton, Mark Coulbeck and Damien Varnham. There is little between Darren Drake, Bryce Coulbeck and Mathew Lamb in the junior class, while Nigel Wilkinson, who has been dominant in the 100 cu cm senior class for several meetings, will have his work cut out. Mark Childs and Peter McLay should push Wilkinson hard, as will the defending champion, Michael Wallace, of Dunedin. Graham Stevens has had several months off racing, but has rebuilt his Rotax machine and will defend his 125 cu cm trophy. Damien French in the up to 150 cu cm class should dominate the racing, while Stevens will be looking for a double success in the up to 250 cu cm group.
