You may qualify for a wage subsidy
The Department of Labour now offers a wage subsidy which is “attached” to young people who have been seeking work for more than 10 weeks. Designed to give increased work opportunities to people who are having difficulty getting a job, and to help employers meet the initial cost of employment, the subsidy is available at two rates.
• $75 a week for up to 26 weeks for job seekers who have been registered as unemployed for 10 consecutive weeks or 16 out of the last 26 weeks. This is a total of $1950 spread over the subsidy period. • $l2O a week for 13 weeks, reducing to $75 for the next 13 weeks, for those registered for 20 consecutive weeks or 32 out of the last 52.
