Sir, —I congratulate President Reagan on his success in dealing with the Russian leader at the Reykjavik meeting. With their acknowledged numerical superiority in offensive nuclear weapons, the U.S.S.R. thought it had a position of strength. Once again President Reagan has demonstrated that an American private enterprise economy is capable of funding the purely defensive “star wars” option which has created so much panic in the Russian camp. It is just too expensive for the peasant Russian economy to match. President Reagan is keeping the Free World’s interests to the fore. — Yours, etc., JOHN BATEMAN. Ahaura, October 14, 1986.
