Housing aid
PA Hamilton Pacific Islanders should be given the same housing assistance as other groups, says the Minister of Pacific Island Affairs, Mr Prebble. A report prepared for the Board of Maori Affairs suggested 30 to 40 per cent of housing corporation low-income and moderate-income mortgage finance should be targeted to Pacific Island
and Maori communities. However, Mr Prebble said Pacific Islanders had a “remarkable ability” to house themselves. In Auckland central a large percentage of housing was owned by Pacific Islanders. All immigrant groups would probably share the same housing problem, he said. When they arrived they did not bring their own pomes with them. $
