Gondola project
Sir, —I heartily agree with the comments of Stephen Wickham (October 11). Many tourists have told me that they come to see our beautiful and, to them, unspoiled country and to meet our) friendly and hospitable people. They have all the gondolas and casinos in their own countries — plus all the problems that go with them. We should learn from) those mistakes. I find the “let’s' rip off the tourist of his last dollar” attitude of some New) Zealanders obscene. If we have something to sell, let it be of the) highest quality, using all our skills and resources. There must be a limit set to the number of tourists here at any one time if we are to halt the rape of New) Zealand.—Yours, etc.,
B. R. MACKAY. October 11, 1986.
