An adventure in a cave

SPURR, aged 7 of Kaiapoi One day I went in to a cave. While I was in the cave it began to rumble. What would I do? Gas began to rise from the ground. The cave closed behind me. I was trapped. Something was moving behind me. I stopped. What was it? I turned around to find a hairy mMonster named Eric. He was so hairy that I jumped. He said in a deep voice:. “What are you doing here?” I did not

know what to say. I said, “I just walked in here.” ’ , He said, “Well, you walked in the! wrong place, didn’t you.” I said, “Yes.” “Then get out of here.” I said, “OK,” and I turned to run out, but the door was closed. Close to the door was something glowing in the dark. I went over to it. It was a marble stone. I had to get it out of there, but how would I manage to push it out. There was a small hole in the roof. If I could break some rocks

off, it would make the. hole bigger so I could push through the hole with the marble stone. I hoped that I would not make a noise. I went over to be sure, when someone touched me with a hand. It was a man. How was he trapped here? He said, “Do not move that stone.” “Why?” “I would not because it is dangerous. I have to go now,” and he did. That night it was dark when the same man came again. “I have found that there

is a place to get out of here.” . I said, “Where?” “Over here.” ' “Down that tunnel you mean?” , ’ “Yes.” ' So we went down that tunnel. It was dark in ths tunnel. We had to dig, dig, dig, dig. Then we started upwards to the top. It took so long. I got bored. After a while we came near to the top. ; When we touched the top I was relieved. There was my house. I thanked the man, and I ran all the way home. i
