Helicopter crash victims mourned
Hundreds of mourners gathered in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Timaru yesterday for the funeral of Mr Pat McCarthy, and Mr Chris McCarthy, the brothers killed in a helicopter crash at Motunau last week. The helicopter was involved in trying to save a stranded trawler the Howard L. Shadbolt. - For the funeral the church was packed to the doors and many people were forced to stand at the back of the church or round the main doorway. The McCarthy brothers were keen rugby followers and a large number of Pareora, Celtic and Star club members were among the mourners.
Father Richard McDonnell celebrated the Requiem Mass, assisted by Father Mark Beban, rector of Roncalli' College, and Father John Walls. About 20 Roncalli College students lined Craigie Avenue
