Corporatisation slated
The Government was pressing ahead with corporatisation of the Post Office without adequate detailed planning, an Opposition spokesman, Mr Roger Maxwell, complained in Christchurch yesterday. “My biggest criticism is that they are feeling their way like a blind man in a strange house. Any detailed planning is taking
place day by day,” he said. Staff could not get straight answers to straight questions, and there was a great deal of confusion all round, he said. Mr Maxwell, the National member of Parliament for Taranaki, met a number of local post office officials on a visit to the Sockburn Post
Office. He said he was worried that many present services were at risk because of the high-performance criteria set for the Post Office corporations. Unprofitable Post Office services were at risk, but he could only make guesses because the Post-master-General, Mr Hunt, had denied him access to figures.
