Basketball coaches
By
FRANK DUGGAN
Gary Pettis (men) and Bill Whelan (women) have been reappointed coaches of the Canterbury basketball league teams for next season. Mr Pettis was unopposed for the position; Mr Whelan won a four-way postal vote. Originally Mr Pettis was to have been transferred to Auckland later this year
with the Armed Services. However, he decided to retire and remain in Christchurch. Mr Whelan took over the women’s team half-way through last season when Mr Phil Whiteside resigned because of a disagreement with the Canterbury Basketball Association. He made himself available for next season, but missed out.
