Proceeds for computers
As part of its seventyfifth jubilee celebrations, St Bede’s College will hold a fair and giant auction in the school grounds, Main North Road, Papanui, this Saturday.
“Last year’s fair raised record proceeds for the college, and this being the jubilee year, we again expect to break all records at the auction with the wide range of products donated from many sources,” said Mr Bernie Connolly, president of the St Bede’s College Parents’ Association.
“In past years, the proceeds have gone to sports facilities and general school improvements, but
this year’s will go towards computers for the college. “Members of this year’s parents’ association team certainly have excelled themselves in organising and promoting a fair worth while to celebrate the seventy-fifth jubilee,” Mr Connolly said. The auction will begin at 11 a.m., and other attractions will include a wide range of bargain stalls, lucky chocolate wheels, side shows, jazz bands and refreshments. Adding to the carnival atmosphere will be two ferris wheels and a merry-go-round.
There will also be a ham auction, a white
elephant stall, arts and crafts, plants and produce, sweets and cakes. During the Labour Day week-end, the college will also be host to about 100 Polynesian people in Christchurch for the Polynesian festival. These visitors will be guests at a large South Pacific hangi to be held in the college grounds on Saturday. The prize in the main raffle will be a return trip to Queenstown including motel accommodation for two nights, a rent-a-car, wine and dine, and $250 spending money. There will also be a multi-draw raffle.
