Summary of events
Observers at the America’s Cup races say developments so far in the row over New Zealand’s “plastic fantastic” fibreglass yachts can be summarised as: The New Zealanders have fulfilled their obligations under the rules as they stand. The rules for building fibreglass boats have been laid down for three years. It has been known for at least the.last year that the New Zealanders were going to build their boat in fibreglass. There have been several meetings involving syndicate members in the last year to go over the rules for the Cup. The Cup rules do not provide for any boat to be tested for hull weight distribution.. If the Americans did .not like the rules they should have protested against them.
