Hire purchase register
PA Hamilton The opposition member of Parliament, Mr Rob Storey (Nat. Waikato), has welcomed a government move to register vehicle hire-purchase agreements, after a family member was caught out in a hirepurchase fraud. But he hoped the Government would give the matter some priority. It would be a pity if it was delayed for a year or two, he said. Mr Storey said he discovered the extent of hire-purchase fraud in Waikato through a family member’s difficulty with a car covered by three hirepurchase agreements. It was an area of “quite substantial crime,” he said. Quite a few people lost money which was often difficult to recover. A register of hire-pur-chase agreements would be a chance to do something positive at low cost, Mr Storey said.
