Rebel Molly
Molly Zero. By Keith Roberts. Penguin, 1985. 251 pp. $10.95 (paperback). Britain 200 years in the future is' under martial law. Molly Zero has been raised, tested, trained and <: indoctrinated in the blocks, a kind of military child-raising camp. She is being groomed for the governing elite;” but she rebels against her destiny. She" questions the rights of the military, l and the reasons for the ruling elite,: and her search for the answers lead her into a series of escapades. This is an interesting concept,, although the idea of a Britain under; martial law just 200 years from now is, hard to accept. The plot could have’ benefitted from being pushed further; into the future. Molly Zero is worth, reading, but it fails short of the, ! science fiction novel it is claimed to* be.—Rod Dew.
