Drama on the high seas is the theme of T.V.N.Z.’s latest Sunday night series.
“Adventurer” is an ac-tion-packed 12-part series which follows the fortunes of Jack Vincent, an aristocrat turned smuggler on his way to a penal colony on Norfolk Island.
During the journey, Vincent out-smarts his wicked brother-in-law captain and stages a successful mutiny. After various misadventures, he ends up in New Zealand and befriends the son of a Maori chief. The series continues in a web of revenge and escape, treasures and friendships. A sequel to “Smuggler,” the director of “Adventurer,” Chris Bailey, describes it as a “real swash-
buckling serial aimed at a family audience.” Produced by the Englishman, Sidney Cole, aged 77, who also produced “Smuggler," the series once again stars the British actor, Oliver Tobias.
Both Cole and Tobias are well-known in television and acting circles, with Cole having produced such programmes as “Dick Turpin,” “Black Beauty” and “Dangerman.” Tobias is known for his lead role in “Hair” at the Shaftesbury Theatre, and his part in “The Stud,” co-starring with Joan Collins. Other actors include the New Zealanders Paul Gittins, Temuera Morrison and Ricahrd Carpenter. The series begins tomorrow (Sunday) at 7 p.m. on Two.
