Clarius brilliant in track work

Special correspondent Auckland Clarius looked fit for his race at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting at Alexandra Park tomorrow evening by the way he

worked at Pukekohe yesterday. Trainer Alan Fausett took him 2600 metres. Clarius accelerated brilliantly from virtually a standing start and cut out the first 200 metres in 15.75. Fausett then eased him and the pace was comparatively slack before heading into the last round. Clarius cut out the final 800 metres in 1:3.6s and 400 m in a dashing 29.8. He seems bound to give a fine account of himself in the Auckland Airport Travelodge Handicap. Another impressive workout came from Te Awa, which is in the Radio Hauraki Handicap. Driven by Edgar Fausett, Te Awa covered 2400 metres in 3:22.8, the last 800 m in 1:2.5 and the final 400 m in 30s.

Sergio Bandit (M. Doidge) and Blabs (C. Donnelly) were shading Romping Home (K. Murphy), with a short gap to Glomatan (T. Murphy) at the end of 2400 metres in 3:26, the last 800 m in 1:4.1.
