Fine, crossbred prices up
Quotations for all fine and crossbred fleece descriptions, as well as second shear, rose at yesterday’s Christchurch wool sale, according to the official report. But price movements among the skirtings and oddments were mixed, with many falling compared with the Dunedin sale on September 4. Extra fine Halfbred, 26 micron, was up 5 per cent, fine Halfbred, 27 and 28 micron, up 2.5 per cent and the medium, strong and extra strong categories, 29 to 32 micron, in sellers’ favour. The Halfbred pieces were down 2.5 per cent, the bellies down 5 to 7.5 per cent, the crutchings in sellers’ favour and the locks and second pieces down 7.5 per cent. Good style medium crossbred, 34 and 35 micron, was up to 2.5 per cent dearer while the good/average style was firm; the strong crossbred, 37 micron, was in sellers’ favour, the crossbred second shear was up to 2.5 per cent dearer, the pieces were also up 2.5 per cent, the bellies down 2.5 to 5 per cent
and the better style oddments down 7.5 per cent. The Wool Board bid on 2897 bales, or 17.3 per cent, of the 17,000 bale offering and had 992 bales, 5.9 per cent, sold or passed to it.
