Prawn harvest
PA Auckland More than 25 tonnes of prawns are expected to be harvested from the ChineseNew Zealand joint venture prawn farm at Kaipara next year, Mr Warren Freer, the originator of the scheme, says. This estimate was regarded by Chinese technicians. as conservative, he told a conference on China trade. “They have told me we may be able to harvest more than 75 tonnes," he said. “if we achieve that tonnage wt certainly will not have any cash flow problems.” Mr Freer, a former Labour
Cabinet Minister, said the farm was operating with five Chinese technicians and three more were expected to join the project next month. A second shipment of prawns from China for breeding were expected to arrive at Kaipara about October 7.' Offspring would be ready for harvest about May or June next year.
