AUSTRALIA Markets firmer

NZPA-AAP Sydney Australian share markets closed firmer in heavy trading following a better-than-expected August balance of payments deficit. Brokers said fears of higher interest rates, following Moody’s Investor Service downgrading of Australia’s. credit rating to AAI from AAA, sparked early selling pressure among industrials. But demand returned after the balance of payments statistics were released and the currency gathered
