PA Wellington The Leader of the House, Mr Palmer, outlined Parliament’s business for the next week when the House sat at 2 p.m. yesterday. Next week will see the continuation of the Budget debate along with consideration of Government legislation. Wednesday will be set aside for private members’ bills. Members presented four petitions asking the Government to reinstate the grant towards teachers' salaries in independent schools to its pre-Budget level. The petitions were from: Christ’s College and 40 others presented by Mr G. W. R. Palmer (Lab., Christchurch Central); Michael Vincent Poffock and two others presented by Mr R. L. G. Talbot (Nat., Ashburton); St Kentigem Trust Board presented by Mr D. A. Graham (Nat., Remuera); Nigel Roy Leonard Toy, headmaster of St Kentigern College presented by Mr N. J. Morrison (Dem., Pakuranga). Mr D. W. A. Marshall (Nat,, Rangitikei) presented the petition of Tim McVerry on behalf of the licenced motor vehicle dealers of Marton

asking the Government to provide for a national GST input on the - used vehicle stock of licensed motor vehicle dealers held at September 30, 1986. Mrs Anne Fraser (Lab., East Cape) presented the petition of the citizens of Waikura Valley asking the Government that there be no increase in teachers’ housing rentals. The annual reports of the Lottery Board, the Fire Service Commission, the Council for Recreation and Sport, the Railways Corporation, and the Ministry of Defence were tabled. Ministers answered 16 questions. The Speaker, Dr Wall, declined a request by Mr Graham for a snap debate on the advertising campaign for goods and services tax. The Constitution Bill was reported back from the Justice and Law Reform Committee. The House adjourned for dinner at 5.30 p.m. Members continued the interrupted debate on the second reading of the Appropriation Bill — the Budget debate — when the House resumed after dinner at 7.30 p.m. The debate was interrupted when the House rose at II p.m.
