Netball plans ‘pie in the sky’
PA Dunedin Lois Muir, the national netball coach, described as “pie in the sky” a suggestion that a breakaway netball association in Australia would involve a New • Zealand team in its competitions. Mrs Muir was responding to a report from Sydney which said the rebel Combined Australian Netball Association planned to stage a super challenge in May, which would involve a provincial team from New Zealand. “It is an interesting exercise, but no affiliated member of the New Zealand Netball Association could play against them,” she said yesterday. Mrs Muir said the C.A.N.A., which allows professionalism and sponsorship on playing uniforms, had broken away from the international federation and as such was not recognised by the world’s governing body.
