Extra flights by Qantas

Qantas will introduce two extra services a week between Christchurch and Australia from November 1, increasing the number of its flights to 10 a week and giving it about a 300seat lead over Air New Zealand’s capacity. Air New Zealand, however, will have 12 flights a week and will be able to offer a greater frequency because it will be using mainly the smaller Boeing 7675. The airline will fly 8767 s on all of its Tasman routes except Sydney on Tuesday (8747) and Hobart (8737) on Saturdays. This will allow it to offer flights to Sydney daily, except Sundays. Qantas, using 87475, will fly the route on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays. The Christchurch manager of Qantas, Mr Ken Reid, said yesterday that the airline had had a 28 per cent traffic increase on its Tasman routes. In a big expansion plan, Qantas will open retail ticket offices soon in Dunedin, Palmerston North, and Hamilton. Qantas traffic has been boosted by the cheap fares it is offering to London, Europe, and the United States via Australia.
