Trotted a tremendous race for fourth from 30m behind Simon Katz in the Ordeal Cup last Saturday when having his first start since January, 1985. That run should improve him and under these conditions stands out. Whangarei DUSKY LEGEND (Race 10) b h, 5 yrs, March LegendDusky Lin; trained at Cambridge by S. Mackinnon. Has not raced since May but obviously better than average and should take beating over 1400 metres today. SATURDAY Auckland BUTCH HACKETT (Race 3) b g, 4 yrs, Alba Byrd-Lopez Duenna; trained at Clevedon by R. C. and B. Purdon. Big run for second first-up at Alexandra Park on August 28. Better draw this time and logical choice.
Cambridge STEELY DAN (Race 5), gr g, 3 yrs, by Standaan-Miss Jubilee; trained at Matamata by T. R. Gillies. Has scored by wide margins in his only starts this season. Meets a strong field tomorrow but should measure up. Hawke’s Bay ARCTIC WOLF (Race 9), b c, 3 yrs, by Mussorgsky-Tra-cey Lee; trained at Levin by W. G. Ivil. Highly promising youngster which was unbeaten in two race starts last season. Should resume on a winning note tomorrow. Marlborough AMPAC (Race 8), br g, 5 yrs, by Norfolk Air-Che-vilie; trained at Riccarton by D. J. Thistoll. Impressive wins at Ashburton and Washdyke last week. Well-placed to record another success tomorrow. Timaru EDISKNAB (Race 2), b g, syrs, by Keystone SurpriseWinter Wonder; trained at Leeston by T. M. McMillan. Most impressive at recent trials and should be a class above this field.
