Australia’s fish imports
NZPA-AAP London New Zealand supplies 33 per cent of Australia’s fish imports, followed by Japan with 13 per cent and South Africa, 10 per cent. A world review of fisheries by the Organisation for ■ Economic Co-opera-tion and Development found that while Australia has an export-oriented fishing industry, with 1984-85 sales totalling sAust4oo million ($512 million), fresh and frozen fish imports rose 50 per cent in the same period to 14,000 tonnes valued at sAust2o million ($25.6 million).
