Extradition ‘not justified’
NZPA-AAP Sydney No evidence given justified an order for the extradition of a religious leader to New Zealand, Mr Marcus Einfeld, Q.C., submitted in the Federal Court yesterday. He was appearing for Amrit Lal Narain, aged 50, who is charged with illegal detention and as-
sault. Mr Einfeld told Mr Justice Pincus yesterday that Narain was not a fugitive from justice. He had made a number of visits back to New Zealand.
Allegations made against Narain were denied by him and by many other people who
were in a position to see or know about what had happened. He said the court had to be satisfied there was some evidence that offences had been committed before it could consider any other issue. The hearing will resume today.
