$1.4M yacht under construction
The yacht will be launched this summer and will be both Mr Stewart’s personal yacht and a floating advertisement for the firm’s workmanship. “Everyone who has seen the boat and has seen other aluminium boats says it has been built as well or better than anything else in New Zealand,” said Skope’s general manager, Mr Basil Hart. The design comes from the respected Dutch firm, E. G. van de Stadt. The interior custom design will be fitted out with teak joinery, subcontracted to a Christchurch firm. It was chosen after considering designs from all over the world, said Mr Hart. In spite of the firm’s modest factory (an end wall will have to be demolished to get the boat out), Skope should be able to turn out sister vessels at the rate of two a year, said Mr Hart. The price? About $1.4 million, depending on specification.
