World Cup fever?
PA Auckland Rugby administrators in the Home Countries may have been slow to accept the rugby World Cup proposal, but that has not stopped rugby fans in the United Kingdom from seeking tickets in huge numbers. Dick Littlejohn, chairman of the New Zealand organising committee for next year’s rugby world championship, confirmed that at least 100,000 tickets have already been ordered, most of them to the United Kingdom. “We don’t have exact figures for sales available and I can’t give an accurate breakdown of where those tickets have gone,” said Mr Littlejohn, “but sales are definitely in excess of 100,000.” About 2500 tickets went to Argentina and another 1600 have gone to Canada. Mr Littlejohn said the bulk of the remainder had gone to the United Kingdom. Prices for those tickets have yet to be set. Given the present stand price for the recent Australian test series in New Zealand, prices should be about $2O.
