Boys find grenade
PA Auckland Four schoolboys yesterday found a live grenade while playing war games in bush at Massey near Auckland. One of the boys, Anton Meeuws, aged 12, said he and his friends scraped dirt off the object and "juggled it around.” They did not know it
was a grenade, until they asked a parent for an opinion.
“He told us to stick it on the ground and back away from it,” said Anton. “We took it pretty calmly, though.”
The grenade was removed and detonated by Royal New Zealand Air Force armourers.
