Fast times recorded at Hastings
Special correspondent Hastings There was plenty of action at the Hastings track session yesterday morning, with some fast times recorded by Parade Lap, Go Lady, Avant, and Dare. Fast work was carried out on the plough (easy) and No. 1 grass (soft). Most horses were topping off their preparation for tomorrow’s Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s matinee race meeting. Parade Lap, as is often the case, recorded one of the best times of the morning when he cut out 800 metres on the plough in partnership with Go Lady. They sped over the distance in 50.65, the last 600 m in 36.85. Dare galloped over 800 metres on the plough in 50s, the last 600 m in 37.15. She could have easily improved on this time and is ready for a bold effort at tomorrow’s trials. Depending on how she performs in her 1000 m trial, Dare will then probably
kick off her fresh campaign at the Hawke’s Bay spring meeting. At this stage she is likely to contest the open sprint on the second day of the meeting. Stablemate Honour Bright is a notable absentee from Saturday’s Tim Rogers Stakes at Wanganui. Trainer Davey Jones has decided to bypass the 1600 metre event with the gelding and set him instead for the Byerley Thoroughbred Stakes (1400 metres) at the Hawke’s Bay meeting on Saturday week.
