Crown to sell chain
PA Wellington Crown Forest Industries, a subsidary of Fletcher Challenge, Ltd, and Beaver Lumber have announced agreement in principle for Crown to sell its 26-store home improvement chain to Beaver Lumber. Crown Forest’s president, Mr lan Donald, said the Vancouver-based company’s retail operations, while successful in recent years, did not fit Crown’s over-all strategy to focus on its core activities in the forest products industry. Crown Stores operates four Home Town home
improvement centres in Calgary, four in Vancouver, two in Edmonton and one in Regina, as well as 15 Crown Mart building supply outlets throughout Saskatchewan and Alberta. Toronto-based Beaver Lumber is the largest building materials and hard goods retailer in Canada.
