Spanking law gets results
PA Wellington Physical violence against children in Sweden has dropped by about one-quarter since an anti-spanking law was introduced, says a Swedish children’s ombudsman, Mrs Lisa Hollstrom. The 1979 law makes it an offence for parents, or anyone else working with children, to hit them as a form of discipline.
Mrs Hollstrom said in Wellington, that while parents could be taken to court for hitting their children, the main purpose of the law was educational.
