Would-be rapist foiled at Lyttelton
A would-be rapist was foiled when a woman managed to struggle free during an attack in Lyttelton early yesterday morning.
A police spokesman said that the woman had been to a soccer function at the Lyttelton Hotel. She left soon after midnight to go home. When she went to her car parked behind the hotel she was attacked by a man wearing a balaclava.
During a struggle she broke loose and the offender ran off. The woman ran to her Lyttelton flat, but could not get in because she had lost her purse and keys in the struggle. She went to a friend’s place nearby and stayed there until 5 a.m., when her friend called the police.
The woman’s -physical injuries were not serious. Police inquiries are continuing.
