Joint project to make fibreboard

N.Z. Fores Products, Ltd, and Amcor, Ltd, wifi spend $8? million in a joint venture to make medium density fibreboard in Australia. Tne panel board is made from wood fibres reconstituted with a resin binder under beat and pressure, and is a substitute for furniture and moulding timber. Most of the capital spending on tee new plant will be in 1987-88 with commercial product available in late ISB3. Initial plant capacity will approximate that of the only other medium density fibreboard plant in Australia. The new plant will be able to be extended to produce 200.G0T cu m of fibreboard each year.

The project will be run by Anfor, Lid. a company jointly owned by tee two partners. Mr Hunt, who is also chairman of Anfor, said “the new project win capitalise on the diminishihg wcrid-wide availability of Quality timbers, which is providing new opportunities for timber substitutes.” Last June tee two companies announced teat they would combine, again through Anfor. to build a SHong Kong 45 million plant to make corrugated boxes in Hong Kong-
