Brutus Hanover in form for Hutt Park

Brutus Hanover, though dogged by bad draws at the meeting, should complete a double when he contests the Hotel St George Mobile Pace at the Wellington Harness Racing Club’s meeting at Hutt Park this evening. The Morrinsvilletrained gelding won his fourth race on the track when he turned in a game effort to win the feature event on the first night of the meeting last Friday.

Brutus Hanover drew the outside of the front line on that occasion and settled at the back of the field. Maurice McKendry attempted ■to improve with him a lap from home but ended up parked three wide. Brutus Hanover could have been forgiven for weakening in the run home but he is tough and

fought on courageously for a half-length win. Apart from Friday’s class 2 winner Bionic Raider, the field this evening is the same as Brutus Hanover encountered on the first night. But he has drawn badly again and if there are no scratchings, he will have to start from the inside of the second row.

However, providing McKendry can find a clear passage for him it is difficult to see any of his first night rivals improving enough to beat him.

Bionic Raider won impressively as well on Friday and should cope with the rise in class, while My Locality, second to Brutus Hanover on Friday, should gain some of the prize money again. He has shown steady improvement this term and raced wide for almost the entire journey on Friday. He has drawn No. 1 this time and should offer

spirited opposition. Idle Thoughts ran on well for fourth on Friday and could be the best of the others. Yaldhurst trainer Peter Blackmore, produced two winners on the first night of the meeting and he could take out the Lion Brown Graduation Series Final with False Image. False Image won his heat impressively on Friday and his time was three seconds faster than Audrey -Hanover and El Nini, which dead-heated in the second heat, though the track did become slower as the night progressed. Audrey Hanover, which pulled hard on Friday, and El Nino both did well from second row draws and have fared better this evening. However, False Image is favoured to head them off.

Festive Heir and Graff Spee look the best of the others.
