Howzat lifts indoor trophy
An impressive batting performance laid the foundation for a convincing victory by Converse Howzat, of Christchurch, against the New Zealand indoor cricket Challenge Shield holders, Harbour, in Wellington on Saturday evening. Batting first, Howzat, which was the second team to challenge Harbour for the trophy, notched 138 in its 16 overs. Harbour had a slim chance
when it had compiled 71 with six overs remaining, but finished with just 86. Peter Kennedy and the captain, Garry Gardner, after three run-outs in the first over, recovered to share a stand of 37. Kennedy scored 27 runs off 13 balls. The other three pairs all chipped in. Steve Booth and Roy Wesney added 23, while Mark Barratt and Frank Noster and Don Kars and
Julian Marsh both put on 39 runs. The pick of the Howzat bowlers was Marsh, who conceded just one run off his two overs. Kars and Gardner gave away three runs, and Noster nine runs. Kennedy’s brace of overs cost 13, Barratt went for 16 runs and the most expensive pair were Wesney and Booth, who cost 20 and 21 runs respectively.
