BHP deal?
NZPA-AAP Sydney BHP has struck a deal to buy out its raiders, John Elliott’s Elders-IXL and Robert Holmes a Court’s Bell Resources, according to Sydney’s “National Times” yesterday. The newspaper said the move had ended 18 months of Australia’s biggest corporate poker game. It quoted “well-piaced sources” as saying a settlement on the bid, which was likely to leave BHP with heavy debt, would be announced in two weeks. BHP shareholders meet on September 23. “While details are incomplete, the direction of negotiations is now plain,” the newspaper quoted the sources.
