Call for campaign on aggressive driving
PA Wellington Jekyll-and-Hyde drivers and high accident rates have prompted the Automobile Association into appealing to the Ministry of Transport for a road safety campaign similar to the drink-driving blitz. The association’s Wellington district manager, Mr Rex Donald, said a campaign would be aimed at the many normally passive people who turned
into aggressive monsters fighting for their slice of road space when they get behind a steering wheel. “We are a nation of absolutely lousy drivers,” he said. “I think it’s just the way we are. It's the way we approach our sporting endeavours, the way we approach our work habits.” New Zealand had one of the world’s worst driving records for the size of its population, he said.
