Shayne Philpott will make his rugby debut for Canterbury A against North Auckland tomorrow in the challenging position of full-back.
Philpott, aged 20, has played most of his rugby at five-eighths, but he did play some of last season at full-back for his club, Burnside, after the regu-
lar custodian, David Farrant, was injured. To make way for Philpott, Robbie Deans has been moved to the right wing. The selector-coach, Alex Wyllie, has included all the players who missed the game against Manawatu in tomorrow’s line-up and back in the team is Albert Anderson, who joined the party yes-
terday. Anderson was unable to play against Manawatu because of a knee injury. Tala Kele also has a knee problem and in the meantime he has been bracketed with Chris Earl as the tight-head prop. Canterbury will be captained tomorrow by Jock Hobbs. The regular captain, Don Hayes, returned
home immediately after the Manawatu game because of lambing problems on his Kirwee farm. The team to play North Auckland is: Shayne Philpott; Robbie Deans, Victor Simpson, Craig Green; Warwick Taylor, Stephen Bachop; Bruce Deans; Dale Atkins; Jock Hobbs (captain), Andy Earl, Albert Anderson, John McCaw; Tala Kele or Chris Earl, John Mills, Murray Davie.
