Church on new site

Shifting St Andrew’s Church went without a hitch yesterday. The church was moved from Hospital Corner to Rang! Ruru Girls’ School, in Merivale Lane.

Shifting began at 6.30 a.m., and the four sections of the. church had reached-the new site by 9.39 a.m.

The managing director of Building Removals, Ltd, Mr Bob Begbie, said the shift “went exactly the way it was planned.” This was mainly thanks- to co-operation between all parties involved, such as the Ministry of Transport and the Municipal Electricity Department, he said. The shift was the biggest job

the firm had handled.

Senior Traffic Sergeant Russell Dellow of the Ministry of Transport said everybody had expected some problems with the shift, but none had occurred- . ; “No parking” signs bad been placed along nar-* row parts of the route the night before. The public had obeyed the signs, he said. The church should be ready for. use again in time for the new school year in February.
