Libya
Sir,—The United States flouted international law by bombing Libya — a country with which it was not at war. Since then it has become clear that Libya was not responsible for the acts of terrorism of which it was accused. In spite of this, and in spite of the weight of world opinion which is against terrorism of any kind, the United States Administration is again threatening to attack this small country. The Middle East is already one of the world’s troubled places — a powder keg waiting to blow. Perhaps President Reagan feels confident that having got away with it once, he
will be able to do so again and, in the process, whip up some jingoism at home. This pleasant dream cannot be relied upon forever. Any attack on the Middle East is a serious threat to world security and must be condemned by all peace-loving people.—Yours, etc.,
JAN FARR. Auckland, August 27, 1986.
