United must be on guard

By DAVID LEGGAT Although It has difficult away games coming up against the two teams above it on the points table, Christchurch Brother United would be foolish to underestimate the Rothmans Soccer League challenge of N.Z. Permanent Gisborne at Queen Elizabeth II Park tomorrow. There are two main reasons why United should keep its guard up against Gisborne. On its last two visits to Christchurch, Kevin Fallon’s team has departed with victories under its belt, one of them a 5-0 bath under lights at English Park. Indeed, since returning to the national league in 1980, Gisborne has only had one defeat in Christchurch. The second point United would be wise to consider is that Gisborne’s title bid, which was bub-

bling along quite nicely, has been virtually crushed by two home defeats at the hands of the Wellington clubs in the last month. Mr Fallon will, no doubt, have acquainted his players with the fact that nothing less than victory will keep its slender championship hopes alive. United should have no fears about the encounter, however. It has suffered only one loss in its last 16 league and Chatham Cup matches. ' . Tomorrow, Papatoetoe will play Majic Carpet Manurewa, Hanimex-i North Shore will face DB Wellington, Child Freighters United Will entertain Dunedin City, University Cowan will play McKee Nelson United and, in the other big game of the round, the leader, National Mutual Miramar, will meet Mount Wellington.
