NZPA New The top seeds, Ivan Lendl and Martina NaviraA tilova, advanced with ease l at the United States Open tennis championships but giant-killer Paul Annacone, who knocked out John McEnroe in the first round, fell to defeat from a two-set lead. Lendl ousted the American, Robert Seguso, 6-3, 61, 6-2, in second-round ■ play, while Navratilova . eliminated her compa-1 triot, Betsy Nagelsen, 6-2; t; 7-5, to reach the third r round. L__
v Aaron Kricksteiri, of the U.S., reversed the fortunes of Annacone, 4-6, 4- : \6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 in 'acentre 1 court match between unseeded players that lasted three hours and nine minutes. The 19-year-old Krickstein, who admits to being a slow starter, seemed to find his form just as Annacone’s serve began to falter. The West German, , Steffi Graf, seeded third, L, breezed past Andrea fTemesvari, of Hungary, 6- ' 1, 6-0, in a 39-minute victory.
Seguso, who beat Jimmy Connors in the first round at Wimbledon this year and McEnroe in the Canadian Open earlier this month, pressed Lendl Navratilova had a little difficulty with Nagelson’s. variable speeds, but said that over all she played well “except in that one game.” That was game four, when Nagelson broke Navratilova. “I lost my concentration and I lost my serve. That shouldn’t have happened,”
