Situations Vacant Situations Vacant MINISTRY OF DEFENCE AUTOMATED PUBLICATION SYSTEM PERSONNEL VACANCIES THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE has a number of vacancies at Head Office, Wellington created by the establishment of a computer based Automated Publications System (APS) that will be used to produce and amend publications to support R.N.Z.A.F. engineering and operational activities. The APS comprises an integrated assortment of computer equipment which includes: Computer Aided Design (CAD) work stations, Data Seamers, a Raster to vector Converter System, an Intelligent Character Recogniser, a Composition work station that integrates text with graphics, micro computers and a laser printer. The system will also be able to interface with photo type setters. Training will be provided for successful applicants. These vacancies offer the successful applicants the opportunity to become part off a new team being set up to produce new technical publications and amend existing publications using “State of Art” technology. TECHNICAL PUBLICATIONS OFFICER: HEAD OFFICE VACANCY: 8133 The applicant will have a detailed knowledge of book classification, cataloguing and the use of quick reference systems. Previous experience should include a minimum of seven years in a technical or scientific library environment. Familiarity with the R.N.Z.A.F. technical publication system is highly desirable while a knowledge of American, British, or Australian military publications systems would be an advantage. Responsibilities include operating the Automated Publication System to produce engineering and operational publications for R.N.Z.A.F. aircraft. This task involves integrating various engineering and operational data from a number of separate sources into a single publication or series of publications that are laid out to meet a prescribed format. TECHNICAL WRITER PUBLICATIONS PRODUCTION: HEAD OFFICE VACANCY: 8134 The applicant must demonstrate the ability to produce technical writing that describes aeronautical equipment and systems in clear and concise terms in order to satisfy regulatory flight safety and engineering requirements. Previous experience in the aeronautical engineering maintenance field or with avionics systems Is a prerequisite. The Technical Writer’s main task Involves the interpretation of various data - such as wiring schematics, engineering drawings and software listings to produce a comprehensive “Theory of Operation” of the equipment or system involved.
