Petone voters sign petition
PA Wellington Almost 2000 of Petone’s 6000 voters have signed a petition calling for the abolition (of the Local Government Commission. The petition organiser, Mr Carl Tippett, said the Local Government Commission was determined to amalgamate Petone with Lower Hutt no matter what residents thought. Forced amalgamation was grossly undemocratic, he said.
The petition asks the member of Parliament for Western Hutt, Mr John Terris, to present a private member’s bill to Parliament which would abolish the commission.
