Phillipa Hanson, aged 17, who was last evening chosen as Miss Canterbury. Twenty finalists took part in the contest, which was held at the Chung Wah II restaurant. Miss Hanson, of Christchurch, is a part-time model with the Spotlight Agency. Miss Rebecca McKay was second and Misses Fiona Harrison and Jane Hartage were equal third. Miss Hanson will compete in the New Zealand finals on April 11 and, if chosen as Miss New Zealand, will go to the world finals in London.
