Farm head unhappy
NZPA staff correspondent Cairns New Zealand farmers would be disappointed with the outcome of three days of agricultural trade talks in Cairns, said the president of Federated Farmers, Mr Peter Elworthy, yesterday. Wording of the communique at the end of the 14-nation Ministerial meeting of Fair Traders and Agriculture was “not strong enough.”
“Nothing has been done yet about the effect of subsidies on agricultural trade,” he said; The Minister of Overseas Trade, Mr Moore, and delegates from 13 other countries attended the meeting, as did farming industry representatives from New Zealand, Australia, Canada and Argentina.
