PA Wellington Deregulation of the taxi industry would stop all social services run by taxi companies, taxi operators said yesterday. The Minister of Transport, Mr Prebble, told taxi proprietors meeting this week in Tauranga that the industry should prepare itself for eventual freeingup of the taxi licence
system. The public relations officer of Porirua Taxis, Mr Les Jackson, said deregulation would destroy the present company system. “Everything would be done direct off the street without the company support necessary to run schemes like Total Mobility for groups such as hospital boards or disabled persons,” he said.
