Dream Lustre has good win at trials

By

G. K. YULE

Dream Lustre showed that he was right back to his splendid form of last season when he was successful at - the trials held at Addington Raceway yesterday. The smart four-year-old has had a run or two at Sunday work-outs and showed the benefit of them yesterday. He missed the start and settled behind Lord Louie, which had started from 30m.

The pace was slack early and Dream Lustre looped the field to take charge from Early Riser with 1300 m left. From then on he was not seriously tested and he won by two lengths from Lord Louie, with half a length to the 1985 Toyota New Zealand Cup winner, Borana. Premiership made up ground for fourth, ahead of Early Riser and Gold and Black. Dream Lustre recorded 3min 32.8 s for the 2600 m, the last 800 m in 595, with the final 400 m in 28.55. He is to resume at the New Brighton meeting next month when his main mission will be the D.B. Super Star Series, the final of which his trainer, Royce Court, produced Glen Lustre to win a few years ago.

Imperial Time suggested that he was making splendid progress in preparation for the D.B. Super Star Series at the New Brighton meeting next month when he raced away from Viewfield Prince in the heat for C2 and C 3 pacers. Imperial Time was always handy and came through in the straight to win easily.

Viewfield Prince also shaped splendidly when he finished second, ahead of Citation and Rocky Spot, with Go Duke and Fly Boyden Fly not far away next. The winner recorded 3min 31.35, with the last 400 m in 28.75.

Linda Ellen, Firm Offer and Troppo crossed the line with noses between them at the end of 2600 m in a slow 3min 40.9 s in the main race for trotters,

with the last 400 m in 29.75.

Firm Offer still looks on the burly side and she should benefit greatly as a result of the rim.

Shavarno, slow away, did well for fourth, ahead of By The Way. Although his time was not fast. Bossy Boy showed his fitness for his engagement at Forbury Park on Saturday when he won the first of three heats for CO pacers. Bossy Boy missed the start and sustained a good run from the 600 m to win with something in hand from Skylight and Tamara Doone at the end of 2600 m in 3min 35.65, the last 800 m in Imin 3.55, and the final 400 m in 30.45.

Bemborough beat Twilight Time in a slow 3min 43.35, with the last 400 m in 28.75, while Armanat won the other heat from Bees Wings in 3min 33.25, with the final 400 m in 28.65.

Pathfinder was much too strong for his five rivals in the Cl pacing event. He looks big and bright and should be an early winner. He took 3min 32s for the 2600 m the last 800 m in Imin 0.35, and the final 400 m in 29.15. He won by three lengths from Rustler and Damp Destiny. Exposure, a member of John Hay’s Ashburton team, recorded one of the most impressive qualifying efforts seen this spring when- he returned. 3min 25.8 s for 2600 m from a standing start. He was never asked for a serious effort to win by four lengths from Hunter’s Memory, which also qualified, returning 3min 26.65. Exposure is a four-year-old gelding by Armbro Hurricane from Truefield, by the New Zealand Cup winner, True Averil. Four horses qualified over 2400 m, the fastest time of 3min 13ds being returned by Little River, a three-year-old gelding by Light Lord from the Lumber Dream mare, Meadow Dream. Little River is trained at West Melton by Brian Court.

Percy Redwood (3min 13.25) and Patron Flyer

(3min 13.55) also qualified in this heat

Count Cris (3min 15.15) also qualified over 2400 m.

Foulden Treasure, driven by Linda Patterson, outfinished the pacemaker, Dapperman, in the 2600 m mobile heat recording 3min 27.95, while the runner-up returned 3min 28.4 s and also gained his ticket.

Foulden Treasure is a four-year-old mare by Regal Yankee from Foulden Legacy and is trained at Greenpark by Stephen Little.

Western Gem, also trained by Little, was the only trotter to qualify. The three-year-old sister to Front Up showed plenty of style and trotted strongly early, lasting to record 3min 39s for the 2600 m. She looks to be above average in ability.
