Grant for Film Archive

PA Wellington The Film Archive would get a $103,000 grant under Budget provisions, said the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr Tapsell. The archive has been preserving historic film, an urgent task because older films are steadily deteriorating and having to be transferred to modern safety stock. A grant of $53,000 has

been made to the Oral History Archive, while another of $84,000 will go to the Interim Committee for the Conservation of Cultural Property. Mr Tapsell said the latter funding would help art galleries and museums work towards ensuring their collections received constant care from trained conservators. A further $lO,OOO has

been allocated to the Artbank Project which Mr Tapsell intends to introduce to make art works readily available to the community on a rental basis. A similar scheme works in Australia. Mr Tapsell said that while the New Zealand version would become self-supporting, the grant would help get it started.
