Kenya will not pay
NZPA-Reuter Nairobi Kenya’s senior sports official said yesterday Kenya would refuse to pay any bills from the organisers of the Commonwealth Games, which Kenya and 31 other members boycotted in protest at Britain’s South African policy. The British newspaper publisher, Mr Robert Maxwell, chairman of the Commonwealth Games company, is asking for ex-
gratia payments totalling £2.7 million (SNZB million) from the 32 States, on the grounds that the boycott affected sponsorship. Mr Mukora said there was no provision for such payments in the rules of either the Commonwealth or Olympic Games. Mr Maxwell sent Kenya the request for the largest amount, £277,000 ($NZ844,000.
